WVU Libraries have signed new Open Access agreements with three academic publishers – IOP Publishing, American Chemical Society (ACS) and Wiley – to provide researchers with the opportunity to publish free of article processing charges.
Open Access refers to free, immediate and permanent online access to
digital full-text scientific and scholarly material, primarily research
articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Because research published
through open access agreements is available to readers at no cost and with few
to no copyright restrictions, the potential for wider dissemination and
increased citation by others, i.e. impact, is substantially improved.
The IOP agreement allows unlimited open-access publication of articles
by corresponding authors in 58 hybrid journals and 18 fully open-access
journals with no article processing charges (APCs). A complete list of eligible
journals is available here.
The ACS agreement allows unlimited open-access publication of
articles by WVU corresponding authors in ACS journals with no APCs.
Wiley allows WVU authors with accepted manuscripts to publish open access in hybrid journals at no charge to the author. The Wiley agreement is capped at 82 articles for 2023.
All corresponding authors who are current staff members, researchers
(permanent, temporary and/or visiting), or students at the time of submission,
can publish open access at no cost to themselves. The corresponding author is
the author who submits the manuscript and is responsible for communicating with
the journal during the submission, peer review and publication process.
These agreements join existing contracts
with Cambridge University Press; Public Library of Science; BioMed Central;
Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development; and the
Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute. To learn more about WVU’s Open Access
agreements visit the Libraries’ Open Access page, library.wvu.edu/initiatives/open-access.
