West Virginia University Libraries has announced its Fall lineup of workshops designed to enhance research and data management skills.

Led by the Research Support & Engagement (RSE) team, these virtual sessions cater to both new and experienced researchers. Workshops cover a range of essential topics such as data management tools, scholarly publishing, copyright for scholarly authors, and more.

Writing an NIH Data Management Plan with DMPTool 

Monday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m. 

Virtual & Classroom 104, Downtown Library 

Many research funders require Data Management and Sharing Plans (DMPs). This workshop will go over the basics to help you understand the essentials of a DMP, the open-source tools to help you create a plan, and how to comply with funder requirements.   

 

Copyright for Scholarly Authors 

Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1 p.m. 

Virtual & Classroom 104, Downtown Library 

Explore key aspects of copyright for scholarly authors through this workshop, including understanding your rights, the significance of signing a publication agreement, and how to authorize others to use your work. It features real-world examples, with ample time for questions. 

 

Intro to Publishing: How Scholarly/ Academic Publishing Works

Submitting to a journal for the first time, learning about peer review process, or joining a journal’s editorial team can be challenging. This workshop will help you learn how scholarly and academic publishing works and what to expect when acting as an author, reviewer, editor, or journal manager.

In this online workshop we will explain Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD) formatting requirements, walk you through the submission process, and answer all of your questions to help make your submission stress free.
