West Virginia University Libraries is announcing its September lineup of workshops designed to enhance research and data management skills. 

Led by Research Support & Engagement (RSE) team, these virtual sessions cater to both new and experienced researchers. 

Workshops cover a range of essential topics such as data management, data analysis and visualization, scholarly publishing, open education resources, and more.

Introduction to Data Analysis and Visualization 

Tuesday, September 9, 12 p.m. 

Classroom 104, Downtown Library 

Explore the basics of data analysis and visualization through this workshop, including some programming languages, tools, best practices, and visualization types. No prior experience or downloading of any materials is required.  

 

Writing a NIH Data Management Plan with DMPTool 

Friday, September 12, 12 p.m. 

Virtual 

Many research funders are requiring Data Management and Sharing Plans (DMPs). This workshop will go over the basics. This workshop will help you understand the basics of a DMP and the open-source DMPTool to create DMPs that comply with funder requirements.  

 

First Steps with R and RStudio 

Tuesday, September 16, 12 p.m. 

Classroom 104, Downtown Library 

R and Rstudio, an open-source statistical analysis language freely available for use on personal computers, is the focus of this workshop. Participants will gain an introduction to fundamental concepts for operating R function and learn how to enter and read data in R. No prior experience with R is required. 

 

Data Cleaning and Analysis with R and RStudio 

Thursday, September 18, 12 p.m. 

Classroom 104, Downtown Library 

Understanding the fundamental data cleaning and analysis functions can help simplify your research process. This workshop focuses on imparting data cleaning concepts and functions using R and the open-source package Tidyverse.
