Graduate Student Exhibit Award submissions now open

Art in the Libraries is proud to announce its call for the 2026 Graduate Student Exhibit Award is now open through May 15.

As part of its mission, the West Virginia University Libraries Art in the Libraries initiative seeks to highlight the art and scholarship of the WVU community — including graduate students. The Art in the Libraries Committee invites current graduate students to submit ideas for consideration for an exhibit to visually showcase their scholarship in new and experimental ways.

Proposals can present a visual evolution of work, visualize research and influences, or answer a research question. Submissions should be based on academic or creative research and lend themselves to visual interpretation with Libraries consultation.

The goals of this award are to:

  • Provide a multidisciplinary platform for deeper learning;
  • Foster intellectual discourse and discussion; and
  • Demonstrate the breadth of WVU's creative and innovative activity.

The winning submission will be displayed in the Graduate Research Commons in the Downtown Library, Room 122, for the fall 2026 and/or spring 2027 semesters. In addition, the awardee can optionally give a public lecture, program, or demonstration. The award includes $500 as professional development funds.

For more information about deadlines, requirements, previous winners and examples, and how to submit, visit: exhibits.lib.wvu.edu/awards/graduate-student-awards

All WVU graduate students who will be enrolled while the exhibit is on display are eligible. Winners will be selected by the Art in the Libraries Committee and selection will be based on applications that best meet the award goals listed above.

Applicants may contact Sally Brown, for a tour and/or consultation before applying.
