The submission window for the 2026-27 WVU Alumni Art Show, Reflecting on Freedom: 250 Years Through the Eyes of WVU Alumni Artists, is now open through December 31, 2025.
The West Virginia University Art in the Libraries Committee invites WVU alumni from all backgrounds and disciplines to submit their artistic work exploring themes of freedom and independence—past, present, and future—to be considered for recognition and inclusion in an exhibition recognizing the United States’ 250th anniversary.
A milestone that invites both celebration and examination, this exhibition aims to foster dialogue about the meaning of freedom and independence today, encouraging artists and viewers to reflect on their experiences and the broader societal shifts that continue to shape these concepts. By highlighting the diverse perspectives of WVU alumni through visual art, WVU Libraries’ Art in the Libraries initiative seeks to acknowledge the complexities of our nation’s past while envisioning inclusive and transformative possibilities for the future.
Works may reflect personal or collective experiences, historical narratives, political interpretations, or future visions of liberty and autonomy.
WVU alumni must apply by December 31, 2025.
Winners will be selected by a jury consisting of the Art in the Libraries Committee, WVU creative arts faculty, and a WVU alumni artist. Selection of works will be based on submissions that best meet the exhibition's goals listed above.
