The 2026 West Virginia University Libraries’ Art in the Libraries faculty/staff exhibit will open at the Downtown Library in late June and feature “I Became Myself Again,” a mixed media art collection created through community-based focus groups.

Through the artists’ use of a range of materials from canvas and paint to string and markers, visitors can experience the profound complexities of self and societal acceptance.
Accompanying each artwork is an artist statement providing essential context and personal narrative to the visual works.
The exhibit, co-led by 2025 WVU School of Medicine graduate, Dr. El Didden, and faculty mentor and assistant professor Dr. Kacie Kidd, offers a powerful, visual exploration of personal experiences.
“Through this exhibit, the artists bridge clinical research and human storytelling,” said Art in the Libraries Curator Sally Brown. “Visitors can experience the rare, intimate window into the visceral and joy-filled journeys of people in our community.”
The awardee will receive $1,000 in professional development funds, made possible through generous donations to the Art in the Libraries initiative.
