WVU Art in the Libraries, Alumni Association invites the community to celebrate new alumni exhibit

West Virginia University Art in the Libraries and the WVU Alumni Association invite the community to celebrate the launch of a special alumni exhibition, "Reflecting on Freedom: 250 Years Through the Eyes of WVU Alumni Artists."

In honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the exhibition explores freedom and independence through the perspectives of WVU alumni artists. It brings together personal, historical, political and cultural perspectives, demonstrating that the meaning of liberty is neither fixed nor singular.

Featuring a mix of portraits, abstractions, text-based paintings, mixed media, ceramics and quilts, the exhibition offers a range of perspectives on freedom, independence, identity, memory, resilience and self-expression. Collectively, the exhibit invites viewers to consider how history, identity, place and community shape our understanding of liberty.

A reception to celebrate the launch of the exibition will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 4-6 p.m. in the Nutting Gallery at The Erickson Alumni Center. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with many of the alumni artists. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged.

"Reflecting on Freedom: 250 Years Through the Eyes of WVU Alumni Artists" will be on display through May 2027 at the Downtown Library and Nutting Gallery in the WVU Erickson Alumni Center. This project is made possible with financial assistance from MPB Print & Sign Superstore and The WVU Erickson Alumni Center.
